Mediation Business Summit – Days 2 and 3 – straight talking and raising the bar.

Day 2 on Friday was another really fantastic day with our remarkable speakers Phil GerbyshakDenise Wakeman and Carol Roth.

We had a great start with Phil speaking about his personal take on networking. This is possibly one of the most nuanced and intensely personal marketing activities but Phil made it easy to check in with what works for your personality and how you can be yourself and be effective. Some fabulous tips that make complete sense but that I hadn’t thought of before.

Denise Wakeman was right on the money with her advice on business blogging and really honed her expertise for a group who might be wondering what the value is to their business of having a blog. At the end of the session, people were left in no doubt that it really is a personal choice but to chose not to have one is to pass up on a marketing activity that brings great returns for the time invested which is hard to match. And blogging is not just about writing!

We ended the day with a fabulous walk through of entrepreneurial dos and don’ts from Carol Roth. Carol has a really great take on business strategy and all her points were so relevant for conflict resolution professionals, whatever the maturity of their business. I have a couple of knock-out points noted that I found very helpful in applying to my own business. Inspiring in both focus and breadth, is my lasting impression of Carol’s insights.

Today was World Peace Day and it was entirely fitting that we should start the day with a session titled Peace Maker / Rain Maker with David Pearl. We looked at the opportunities to broaden the reach of our work and how to frame it in a way that might appeal to the corporate customer. David’s experience and thoughtfulness about the real opportunities we have to frame our work in a myriad ways will have people buzzing with ideas for a long time.

Charles Green gave us a real insight into the meaning and power of trust-based selling and for any professionals who find the selling part of their business practice somewhat challenging, he had some powerful advice on how to tailor an effective sales approach with integrity and confidence. Something that is invaluable for everyone.

All too soon, we arrived at our final session. with a trio of seasoned professionals representing a full range of international ADR practice: mediation, training, conflict coaching and collaborative law.  Diane Levin , Neil Denny and Cinnie Noble gave generous and frank answers from their own experience. All are esteemed colleagues who invest a great deal of their time in sharing their experience and educating the wider community through their writing, speaking and blogging. It was a real privilege to bring them together in what was a worthwhile conversation.
